- We had a VERY SPECIAL month of Kislev, culminating with Yud Tes Kislev and Chanukah!
- Monday evening, ליל י״ט כסלו, each shiur arranged its own seudah, where talmidim shared parts of the story of Yud Tes Kislev, sang nigunim, and continued with a farbrengen together with their mashpim.
- Tuesday, י״ט כסלו, after Chassidus and Shacharis, the Talmidim watched the majority of the Rebbe’s farbrengen of Yud Tes Kislev 5742—an hour and a half during morning seder and nearly two hours in the afternoon. It was very special to see how the bochurim sat attentively, followed along, and many wrote notes and answered questions between the sichos.
- Tuesday evening, י״ט כסלו, we had a beautiful seudah in the Kahal Chassidim Hall. It was an uplifting and inspiring event. The seudah was followed by a farbrengen for Shiur Alef with Rabbi Meir Hecht, shliach in Evanston, IL. They farbrenged all night at his Chabad House, while Shiur Bais and Gimmel farbrenged in Mesivta with Rabbi Cohen and other Hanhala members.
- Chanukah, Despite the extreme cold and many talmidim being ill, the bochurim were fully invested in the few nights of mivtzoim, with great success. On the first night, due to the frigid temperatures, we had to cut back on outdoor mivtzoim. On Erev Chanukah, as news of the terrible events unfolding in Sydney came in, we gathered the entire Mesivta. Rabbi Halberstam and Rabbi Schechter spoke with the bochurim about what happened in an appropriate way, and we all said Tehillim together for Yehuda Leib ben Menya, a former talmid and brother of current talmid Levi. Leible was undergoing surgery following the attack, and we davened for him and for all others. In the evening, since mivtzoim were shortened, we held a special seder to add to our learning. May we hear only good news.
- What we have been working on at Mesivta
Developing a general and consistent awareness and sensitivity to one another. Mentchlichkeit and being considerate of all—acting mentchlach in the dining room by not pushing when taking food, thinking about others and not just ourselves, cleaning our plates, thanking kictehn staff. Bochurim can clearly see how acting this way makes everyone happier! There is still much more to come on this in the months ahead.
