Taking off policy
Before requesting permission, please become acquainted with Mesivta's "taking off" Policy and ensure that your request is within the guidelines below.
Families בלעה"ר celebrate many Simchos, but leaving Mesivta too often disrupts learning and affects all Talmidim. Absences should therefore be limited to what is truly necessary.
Type A Simchos (automatic permission)
Includes Bar Mitzvahs, L’chaims, and Chasunas of siblings, uncles, and aunts.
- Bar Mitzvah / L’chaim / non-sibling’s Chasuna
- Up to 2 full Yeshiva days (including travel). Friday and Shabbos together count as one full Yeshiva day.
- Examples:
- Tuesday night Simcha → leave Tuesday, return Wednesday 9:00pm.
- Thursday night Simcha → leave Thursday, return Sunday 10:00am. (
- Sunday night Simcha → leave Friday, return Monday 10:00am.
- Sibling’s Chasuna
- Up to 6 full Yeshiva days (including travel).
- Example: Tuesday night → leave Monday, return Sunday 9:00pm.
- No yearly limit for Type A Simchos.
Type B Simchos (restricted permission)
Includes cousin’s Chasuna or other gatherings deemed very important.
- Limit of 1 per year (possibly 2 in rare, extenuating cases).
- Not permitted if the Talmid already attended 3 or more Type A Simchos that year.
- Time allowance is the same as for a Type A Bar Mitzvah / L’chaim (up to 2 days).
- Type A and Type B may not be combined.
General Guidelines
- Parents must request permission at least 2 weeks in advance (unless unknown earlier).
