Sending My Son off to Mesivta – What do I Need to Know?

In general, what should I pack my son with when sending him to Mesivta?

Think in terms of sending him to camp, just for an entire year, i.e. clothing, bedding, and toiletries.

What about shampoos, soaps, toothpaste, etc.?

We suggest that you begin with sending him with all that he needs in the way of toiletries. However, you do not need to send him a stockpile for a year. When they run out, the boys are able to purchase items in Chicago.

Does Mesivta supply blankets and pillows?

No, all bedding has to be brought from home.

Is there place to keep suitcases in Mesivta?

Yes. Every dorm has designated spaces to keep their empty luggage and suitcases.

Do I need to send laundry detergent?

There is no need to send laundry detergent with your son. He can purchase this item in Chicago. (See “Laundry”.)

Forms Yeshiva Needs

What are the forms that Mesivta must have prior to my son’s arrival at Mesivta?

Shiur Alef students and new students need the IL Health form and an Eye exam form completed and signed by a doctor and by the parents. Plus the Lunch Form and all Magnus Health Portal requirements. Returning students need to complete the Lunch form, if all forms were completed the previous year, then only the remaining Magnus Health Portal online forms need to be reviewed and submitted.

All forms can be found on this site under “Health and Safety”.

Will I need to resubmit the forms every year of my son being at Mesivta?

Each year the Lunch Form, Medical Consent, and updates on the Magnus Health Portal will be needed. No doctor visits if you completed IL Health Form and Eye Exam the first year, these are good for the entire stay at Mesivta.
